Our mission

Hearing For Children

The mission of Hearing for Children is threefold:

  • Proving that low-cost cochlear implants can be made inexpensively
  • We expect to do this using technology very similar to that originally used by Dr. William F. House, our founder and the man perhaps more responsible than any other for the invention of the cochlear implant. That technology was deliberately not patented by Dr. House, so that it could be used by any company anywhere to produce cochlear implants. Further research showing that such implants are safe and effective will be undertaken to interest many companies to provide these devices.

In turn, the best way to prove these devices is to provide these newly designed cochlear implants to patients, worldwide, as this organization was founded to do, and to show, through careful scientific studies of those patients, the benefits provided...

We further expect to reduce the cost by:

  • Engaging in research to design easily-manufactured, low-cost, high-quality cochlear implants

  • Finally, we are working toward providing free materials that can be used by parents and patients in many countries and areas to help them get better use of whatever hearing they may have, whether they use a hearing aid, a cochlear implant, or neither.

  • Thus we are providing free rehabilitation materials
  • What we can do, therefor, is prove to the world that single electrode cochlear implants can provide high-quality access to sound, and that they can be made inexpensively. With your help, we believe the world can thus benefit.
